RoHS is Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances. These substances are used in electrical and electronic equipments, which are cadmium, hexavalent chromium, lead, mercury, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers. The regulation limits the use of the content of these six types of hazardous material. Under RoHS, electrical and electronic goods in Europe market are required to not exceed permitted levels of these six specified hazardous substances after July, 1st 2006.

Spare parts must be also RoHS compliant ONLY IF the parent equipment is placed after the deadline, July 1st, 2006. Therefore, if the time the equipment placed on the market is before July 1st, 2006, its spare parts will be exempted from RoHS compliance.

Products made specifically for military applications are excluded from the WEEE and RoHS Directives.

RoHS does not specify any label requirements. Products do not need to be identified outside with any RoHS complaince label.
